How the counts work
Modern browsers use Unicode word and character segmentation. Character counts include spaces and punctuation and group many combined emoji into a single visible character. Word boundaries can vary by browser and language; older browsers fall back to whitespace-separated words. Blank lines count as lines, while an empty editor has zero lines.
Reading time is an estimate
The reading estimate assumes 200 words per minute and rounds up to the next minute. It is not a guarantee of how quickly someone will read your text.
